Honors and Awards
The Brooklawn Student Council is an active
member of the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) and the
New Jersey Association of Student Councils (NJASC), participating in their annual Leadership Training Conference (LTC) as well as other events. In August 2006, our Advisor Mr. Lou Miller became an Executive Director for the NJASC, and works together with Mrs. Wendy Booth-Sitzler of Palmyra High School to advise the State Officers and administrate our state Student Council association. Mrs. Alison Franz, a former Brooklawn student, now also serves as co-advisor. Each year, Mr. Miller selects administrative assistants for NJASC that are former Brooklawn Student Council Executives who assist with the current Brooklawn Executive Board.
Over the past two decades, the Brooklawn Student Council has earned numerous honors and awards at both the State and National level:
-
NASC Gold Council of Excellence (2006, 2007, 2008). CLICK HERE to read more about this prestigious award - one of only EIGHT given in the United States - to our Student Council for the past three years.
-
NJASC
10th year "Honor School Student Council" (1998-present). This award
recognizes those Student Councils that maintain standards
set by the NJASC for Student Council operations and
activities. For a complete list of NJASC Honor Schools, visit their website at www.njasc.org.
-
NJASC
State Charity "$2000 Club" (1996-2002), "$5000 Club"
(2003-present). This past year, we donated $5067 to the 2005-2006 NJASC State Charity,
"The Simpson Baber Foundation". We raised this money
through our annual Penny Wars, Brooklawn's Intense Games, and the Back In The Day
Contest. We are proud to support the NJASC in
meeting its overall donation goal to support this worthy cause and look
forward to supporting the 2006-2007 State Charity, "The Little Rock Foundation".
-
NJASC
Top Ten Projects Award (2001, 2004, 2006). This award is given to ten schools each
year, to recognize top Student Council projects in our state. Only two of these awards each year are given to middle
schools - we won this award in 2001 for Brooklawn's Intense Games, in 2004 for B.L.T.
Saturday, and in 2006 for Volleyball Night At Brooklawn.
-
NJASC
"Community Smile" (2001-present). This award is given to schools
that demonstrate an abundance of students hours spent in Community
Service. Our Student Council collects coats,
blankets, and canned food each year to support the
Generous Generations organization. Many other clubs
and activities, such as our Builders Club, also dedicate
many hours to serving those less fortunate in our area.
-
NJASC Middle Level Leader
of the Year Finalist (2001, 2002, 2005). Three of our former Student Council Presidents have been honored by the NJASC as
finalists for the State Middle Level Leader of The Year Award.
-
NJASC State
Officers (2003, 2005). Our Student Council has elected two students to each serve a one-year term as Middle
Level Executive Member on the NJASC Executive Board. Both of these former Brooklawn students now serve as Junior Counselors at the annual NJASC Leadership Training Conference.

have shared this highest NJASC honor with our friends at Phillipsburg Middle School in 1999, and to have worked in this program with Parsippany
Hills High School and Madison
Junior School since that time.
